How to find your voice and what to blog about

Welcome to Day 2!

Trying to determine what you are going to talk about can be daunting, right? It’s actually easier than you think, and today we are going to do it together.

The easiest way to do it is to pick a subject you are passionate about or expert in. It’s as simple as that. To be honest, writing something you are passionate about doesn’t even feel like work.

As long as it’s something you can talk about for hours and hours, regardless of the field, be it underwater basketball, for example, if that is what you are into, then you are gold.

Any type of blog can be monetized, so don’t let the apparent weirdness of the topic stop you.

Below is a list of common blog topics. You don’t have to pick one of these. I give them to you just as a reference.

  • Lifestyle
  • Interior decoration
  • Luxury homes
  • Family
  • Video games
  • Parenting
  • Finance
  • Crafts
  • DIY
  • Small business
  • Outdoors
  • Fitness and health
  • Food
  • Inspiration and advice
  • Animals
  • Travel
  • Luxury travel
  • Budget travel
  • Backpacking
  • Games
  • Music
  • Relationships
  • School
  • Electronics

Step 1 – Choose Your Niche

I always recommend finding a subsegment of the market you can talk about. For example, money is too general. There are tons of different subsegments of money. Here are some examples:

  • How to make more
  • How to save more
  • How to manage a budget
  • How to repay your student loan

As you can see above, all these subjects have something to do with money, but they are completely different. You want to find a submarket that fits you best.

Let me give you another example with traveling, just to make sure it’s clear:

  • Luxury travel
  • Budget travel
  • Backpacking
  • Cruises
  • Family travel
  • Solo travel
  • Nomad lifestyle

Do you see what I mean? So find a broad subject and then niche down to find subsegments of the market that describes you best.

Hopefully, that makes sense.

Step 2 – Create the Structure of Your Blog

A well-organized blog is critical for your success. There is no escaping this. If the structure of your own blog doesn’t make sense to you, it’s probably not going to make a whole lot of sense for your readers.

A well-organized blog will help you not only provide a better experience for your audience but also create content easily.

I have recorded a step-by-step video tutorial to create your blog structure in just a few minutes.

Watch this quick step-by-step tutorial.

It’s important that you pause the video to do the exercises as instructed so that at the end of the video, you have everything ready.

Can I start my blog today? Or do I need to wait until I become an expert in my field?

“I’m not an expert in the field, bro.” This is one of the most common objections that I get from people. The good news is that you don’t need to be the biggest guru on the planet to have something to say.

You have more things to share with the rest of the world than you think. What do gurus talk about? They talk about things that they have tried.

Have they tried everything? Of course not! And I bet you have tried things in the same field that they have never even thought of. You just need to share your own findings and experience with like-minded people, and you will be just fine.

You know why? Because you have an advantage over the next guy. You have a unique perspective on things! Everybody has a unique perspective.

How is that good news? Because for the same subjects, dozens of perspectives and angles can be explored.

So stop waiting until you are that big “expert.” Start today and become an expert as time goes by. People would be far more likely to follow you if you are relatable and if they get to be a part of your journey. Don’t try to be that inaccessible guru in a silver tower.

Be human and share your experience and perspectives on things, and you will be just fine.

A question I often receive is, “Should a person be an ‘expert’ in their niche before they start a blog?” I receive this question all the time, and because of that, I definitely think it needs to be discussed.

I don’t think you need to be an expert or have a degree in most cases when it comes to blogging.

However, if you are in sensitive fields such as legal, you should be very careful with the advice you provide. Make sure to add a disclaimer (if you really want to go that route) stating that this is in no way a shape or form of legal advice but just your own experience.

How to find a good blog name?
  • Keep it simple. The last thing you want is a blog name that’s hard to remember, type, or spell. Try to keep it simple and user-friendly. As much as possible, stay away from special characters (e.g., dash, underscore) that only add to the complexity. Remember that most people have a bad memory and already have hundreds of other websites to remember. Don’t shoot yourself in the foot by making their life harder than it already is. If you are in personal branding, you can just use your name (as long as it’s not too hard to remember for others, obviously).
  • Find a name that matches what you are going to write about. The exercise we did in step 2 will help you a lot. So if you haven’t done it, please go back to the video and do it (it’s uber important). Having clarity about what you are going to write will help you find the keywords for your blog name that will be congruent with your content.
  • Find synonyms of your main keyword. Let’s say you want to name your brand or something like that. This might already be taken. It’s time to look for alternatives, such as “dashing.” You can easily find alternatives by using sites like
  • Use a NameMesh to find the right combination of words. Let me prepare you for something because this might very well happen. You find the perfect domain name, and unfortunately, it’s already taken. Thinking about something else is very often quite hard. This is why I have prepared this resource to help you out. It allows you to find available domain names containing the keywords you are looking to use. This resource saved me a lot of time and sanity.
  • Make it count. We all remember cool wordplays or funny stories, right? Why not use them in your blog’s name? People are far more likely to remember a funny blog name than a boring one, don’t you think?
  • Use your name. Easy option, right? Using your name is quite powerful. However, there is a caveat that you need to be aware of: You are creating a brand that revolves around your name. So everything will be tied to your name, and it will be very hard for you to distance yourself from the business in the future if you ever feel the need to do it.

All right. That was a lot of information to process in one day! I agree with you, guys. Your homework for the day is to apply what you’ve just read in this email. If you need to read it one more time, please don’t hesitate to do it.

We are building the foundations of your new life, and if you get this simple exercise right, that will multiply your chances of success tenfold.
