Are Your Role Models Really That Fearless? Or Is There More To It…?
We all look up to some people and we often assume that these people are fearless. But are they really? Could it be that their ability to perform at the highest level actually comes from somewhere else.
I want to talk to you about something that’s sports related in the beginning, but you're going to see how it actually correlates with what we're doing here.
Okay. So I wanted to talk to you about the notion of being “clutch”. So, what the hell is clutch? All right. So, I mean, in like basketball terms, a clutch player is usually the guy who has the ball, you know, when the clock is like running out and who will take the last shot. Right.
And if you if you keep hitting the shots, people call you clutch player. So I've asked a lot of people what it means for them to be a clutch player. All right. Because a lot of people have their own definition of being clutch.
Now when I say a lot of people, that's the majority of people. But I see things a little bit differently. Right. Another set of people basically think that being clutch is just being like completely fearless and having like ice in your veins and not being afraid of anything. This is why these guys actually hit those shots. Okay. So it's someone who basically, well, is isn't afraid of anything.
So my definition is the being able to hit the shots that you've practiced 300 million times in practice. But this time with pressure. So what's the lesson here?
Are Your Role Models Really That Fearless? Or Is There More To It…?
So here is where it actually applies to all of us. When you see people doing stuff and you think that they're fearless and, you know, everything goes well for them, how can they do this? Can they do that? It's because they've been training for it. Right. Training for years and years and years to be able to do it afterwards. And you see it seems natural, you know, to me.
So, you know, it's the same way it works in basketball. Same way it works in like cooking, for example. I don't know if you're a chef or whatever while you do this amazing pie. You baked five hundred thousand of them. All right. And, you know, half of them were disgusting. But it’s just repetition, repetition, repetition. OK. So when you see someone, you know, online or someone doing something and they appear to be fearless, just understand where that comes from.
So these people, they do have feelings and everything. So they will still be anxious and stuff. And some even some of the biggest stars or people you follow, they'll tell you, dude, before every single performance, I have to meditate. I have to do this. I have to drink five coffees and stuff. I'm nervous. And then once I get on stage, then, wow, it's good.
But you know why? Because they have practiced before. Right. So, you know, don't beat yourself up telling yourself that, you know what? I'll never be able to be like this person because I don't have it in me. I'm not brave enough. And this person has ice in their veins and stuff. No, they don't. They just practice more than you do. So if you practice, then it will come too. Repetition, repetition, repetition my friends. That's the name of the game. Practice makes perfect for everything you want to achieve.
