This is what success looks like.
Today, we are talking about success. Everybody want to be successful, but very few people know what success actually is. Well, that stops today. Today, you are going to discover what success is, but more importantly what it isn't.
All the answers are in today's episode
I was talking to some guy and he was asking me, oh, dude, do you live here? I said yes, I've been here for three years. Oh, man. I'm on holiday here. How do you finance that stuff? I have a bunch of businesses online. And he was like, oh man, you're so successful.
And it got me thinking. “Successful”. That's a term that we use a lot. But here's the thing. Just the same way you can do different things in real estate. You can do different things in life. So when you say what is success for you? What is being successful for you? You'll be very surprised to hear that some people have a completely different opinion of success than you do.
There is a mainstream idea of success that you see on television, which is the guy's with the Rolls-Royce, the Porsche, and the Ferraris. So this is the idea of success that we're getting from media and pretty much everything. So when you have this business and you're making money and all that stuff, this is when you're successful. But here's the thing. Success for you might be very different than success for me.
So some people consider success as having X amount of employees. People are going to fight over how many employees you have. This is the definition of success for some people.
For other people its how much turnover you're actually generating every year. Not necessarily how much you get in your pocket. Some people will measure success like this. Then when you think about it, is success actually related to money? No, it's not necessarily right.
For example, you’re a social worker working with victims of domestic abuse or something. Do you think that success for you is measured based on how much money you actually make? I'm pretty sure it’s how many women or men, you can actually get out of that situation. For that person, this is success, right? If you’re working for an NGO and trying to put an end to hunger or malaria or something.
This is what success looks like
What do you think success is for you?
So having a family for some people is their version of successful. Some people see success in the success of their kids, you know. Oh, man, I'm so happy my kids have done this. And I said I don't have kids right now. The orphanage kids are not my kids. But, you know, they're really close to me.
Seeing some of these kids succeed using maybe some inspiration or some, you know path or contribution for me or from for me and our group, then for us, it's success. You know, if we can see that, well, this kid changed her life and got better opportunities, it is success.
The point of this podcast is not to look at other people's success. Don't take other people's success as the litmus test for you. If you start taking references from someone else, this is a recipe for failure because you're not passionate about that stuff. It's not like deep inside you, you know, you don't want to do it.
So basically, since you don't want to do that stuff, you don't like it. You're going to put in the effort to actually go and do it. And it might not materialize. And then you would be even more miserable because it doesn't come and all that stuff. It's a vicious circle.
So success is personal. All right. It's personal. Your success will be very different from mine. My success is having a choice. I just need to be to be able to have the choice and choose what I can do with my days and, and stuff. That's success for me.
