So time is a rare commodity. And I think it's the most expensive commodity on the planet. People think its gold, diamonds, this and that. No, it's time, my friends. Here is the thing. It might be complicated for you to get a billion dollars, but you can get those billion dollars.

One thing you can't get, no matter how good you are, no matter what you do, is your time back. You can't. All right. And this is something that people actually don't understand enough, is the time that you are not wasting because there's always something to be learned.

But you're doing something you hate. It's time that you won't be able to get back. Right. So I was having a chat with some people a few days ago and weโ€™re like, oh yeah, you know what? All these billionaires and all that stuff, you know, they have everything they want and blah, blah, blah. I'm like, dude, they have almost everything they want. But there is one thing they don't have which is time.

If you're like ninety years old and you had a chance to go back to your twenties or when you're twenty five or something like that, regardless how much money it is going to cost you. So let's say a trillion dollars, people will be willing to pay that trillion dollars to get back in time. This is how precious time is.

I know a lot of things are precious in this world. I don't know how we end up thinking that there are more precious things than time, but there's nothing more precious. Every second that's gone. That's it. You can't get it back. Right.

This is what Bill Gates would pay 50 billions for…

So, I mean, for example, at some point in my life, I was like, dude, you know what? You only have one life. So I actually want to be able to use my time to have more free time. Well, first of all, I actually wanted to be able to have more free time. Free time for me is being able to choose what I want to do. Even if my choice is that let's not do anything, then that's perfect. It's my choice. But I wanted to be able to have this time. So this is why I created all these systems and stuff that I actually run without my intervention.

OK, so this is why I worked really, really hard to be able to at least even if I don't get the time back, at least I used it in a way that coincides with who I am and what I want to do, so that later in my life I won't be like blaming myself and have regrets.

I am trying as much as I can to have a good life, to make the most out of the time that I have. And I think that, well, compared to the majority of people, because a lot of people have like commitments. They have to commute to a job, they have to do this. And then they have all the staff that they have to perform and stuff. I think I'm doing pretty well.

Now I'm able to focus on stuff that I want to do and I want to be able to help some people do the same thing as I'm doing and be able to use the power of automation, of outsourcing to actually have a life. I'm not trying to give you a million dollars. I'm trying to help people get a life, you know, the expression get a life. Yes. That's what I'm trying to do for people. So I'm using my time to basically do that, because the more people I can help with this and the more kids I will be able to help as well in return.

Because now I have a more powerful โ€œwhyโ€ than I had before. Before my โ€œwhyโ€ I had objectives that were somehow in my distant future. And it was more about me being able to have my freedom and my choice. That was my main motivation.

But now my main motivation is actually being able to set out to support some of these kids who don't have much choice in life and maybe being able to create some courses that even these kids can understand. Because the thing is, if you can't explain what you're doing to a five year old, then you need to work on it.

You need to make it as simple as possible. If you want to be able to do something a little bit like me in the sense that you can shape your life however you want, then there is a link below here. You can click on it and I will show you what I do to be able to live like this.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is time more valuable than money according to Martin Ebongue?

Money is unlimited because you can always earn more, but time is finite and non-refundable. Martin argues that even a billionaire like Bill Gates would happily trade fifty billion dollars to recover years lost on tasks they hated, which is why time is the true premium commodity.

Why would Bill Gates pay fifty billion dollars to get his time back?

Because at his level, every business decision can be solved with money except one. He can buy companies, talent, and access, but cannot recover a single hour spent in the wrong meeting. Martin uses this thought experiment to explain why protecting time matters more than chasing income.

How should solopreneurs treat time spent on tasks they hate?

Stop doing them as fast as possible. Martin advises solopreneurs to either automate, delegate, or eliminate any task they dread, because those hours stack up over years and become the most expensive part of their entire career. Pay for systems before paying for lifestyle upgrades.

What is the practical lesson for entrepreneurs when choosing what to work on?

Calculate the lifetime cost of any task you hate before agreeing to keep doing it. Two boring hours per day equals roughly thirty years over a working life. Martin's rule is to design your business so the work you actually do is also the work you would do for free.
