Limit your commitments.
Today we are going to talk about how commitments can derail you from your course and can end up ruining your dreams…
The the subject of the podcast today is commitments. How to limit your commitments.
Because this is one thing that will kill your ambitions and your dreams as well if you're not careful because you know we all want to be nice and help people and stuff but there is a point after which it will kill your productivity. And you need to limit your commitments as much as you can for something that's meaningful for you.
The more commitments you have, the less time you have to actually work on your stuff and make your dreams happen.
Sometimes you get dragged in in stuff. So the more successful someone is, the more people want to hang out with you and try to figure out what you’re doing. And yeah you're going to get a lot of calls and stuff like that so it's hard. I mean it's not in my nature to say no. But I have my end goal in mind and there is something I need to achieve and I need to put in the effort and devote some time to it. S
o you know it means that for a given period a period of time I'm not going to be very reachable or very available for all these kind of events. But then once I'm done with my project then I'll be available again. OK.
And you need to adopt this because you know I've been in situations where I mean I get dragged in projects. You get dragged and mixed up in stuff that you've never asked for and then you have to do damage control and have to deal with these situations.
So yeah if you if you want to avoid stuff like that which sucks you know it really sucks. You don't want to be in that kind of situation, where you just can’t commit fully, and then you’ll let someone down.
Limit your commitments
So what you need to do focus all your energy on that one project you're working on, but there might be some other things that are actually very interesting for you. Okay. It's interesting because you meet interesting people and it's a case that you want to contribute to or something. But don't take too many of them. That's the thing.
How do you gracefully refuse these projects and these commitments? Well that's a good question. You might get a little bit of resentment. But you know it’s how you say it. The ends justify the means or something like that. Yes. If these people get mad at you. You know at the end of the day you want people to understand the fact that there is something you're trying to achieve.
And you know it's important for you. And right now you need to devote the time to it. OK. Doesn't mean that you're not going to talk to them ever again. It's just that people have to be smart about it. All right. So I've been in situations where I was in way too many things. Like honestly. And thank God some of these projects failed. I don't like being dragged in stuff that you know I don't want to do. I don't like not being in charge of my own schedule.
You know that's the worst thing for me. That's one of the reasons why I started my own business so that I can do everything I want whenever I want.
