Hey guys, today we are not going to talk about business or entrepreneurship but about a bigger cause. There are moments in life when you realize that there are far more important things in life than your own insignificant problems.
I got asked to give basketball lessons to some orphans. All right. The first day was today my friends and yeah it went well. Was really cool. And you know it's just one of those things you know you forget about business, you forget about all your problems and stuff.
These kids loved basketball and they wanted to learn because they don't get the chance to play with someone who knows what they're doing. So I went there. I had no idea what to do because I'm not the basketball coach. I could have looked that up. Actually I should have done that.
But I just went with the flow. Right. I decided to go with what I learned by myself. OK. Because it worked for me. It worked really well for me. And I was like well you know what? Maybe it's not very orthodox. It's not something a coach will teach you but it's my own method. And it works wonders for me right.
So you know I went in there and got them doing a bunch of things and it was really cool. You stop thinking about life and everything. Because when you think you had a bad day or you're mad at your parents and stuff like this you know when you're a bit younger and everything you know while you think life sucks. But you know these kids don't have parents. And I can't even begin to imagine what life has been like, having to grow up in an orphanage and stuff.
There Are More Important Things In Life
And so the way it works here is that very often these kids actually have parents. So it's not that their parents are dead. It's just that their parents will just abandon them because they don't have enough money to sustain them or something. So you know it's even that I don't know if it's worse. I don't know.
Like I haven't been in this situation. I think both situations suck but you know if your parents passed away but obviously must be really hard but I don't know if it's harder if your parents are still alive and they just don't want you.
I've never spent time with orphans and everything and that was really cool like this. You know these kids have so much energy and they're smiling and they're happy and stuff like that. Â And you know there's one thing I realized because I just assume that gifts and material possessions and stuff are what people remember or people crave and want but what I realized is that sometimes people just want your time.
You know they don't really care about anything else. And I guess that when you never had parents or maybe had parents who abandoned you and you feel like they don't want you, if someone is giving you their time then it's more valuable than anything.
So it was just a matter of teaching them how to make everything flow and they were pretty good. And then afterwards, other kids joined. So these were I think 14 or 15 and then the other ones that came, I mean some kids were like 7 and 8 and stuff. So I think there were five other kids who were showed up because they were playing football with other people and then the football lesson was finished so they came and we all played together and it was really, really cool.
So you know again for me it's more like a realization on a human level more than anything. And you know it makes you think that these kids don't have anything. They live in an orphanage and stuff. And they were really happy.
And so you know it makes you think about the meaning of life and stuff and just how much your time can mean to someone. Now just acknowledging what you have right now, instead of what you don't have is one of the things a lot of people complain about.
