Google or Facebook? That is the question…..

In today’s episode, we are going to talk about the difference between google and Facebook. When you should privilege one over the other and why.

I was talking to someone today and we were talking about Shopify stores and stuff. Okay. And they were basically telling that they use Facebook to drive traffic and stuff.

I'm not using Facebook. So everybody was amazed. And they were like “why are you not using Facebook? This is what people primarily use.

How are you actually getting those results without using Facebook?”  And so I explained them that I was using the Google network AdWords or some other networks like search networks and it’s very important that you understand the distinction between the different sources of traffic because you can't put the same message on all these sources of traffic because they're actually different. OK.

So in this podcast I just want to give you a very quick rundown of the main difference between the AdWords networks or Google Shopping and Facebook.

Just so you have a good understanding of what these networks are. So me for example when I'm doing my Shopify stores I am using the Google network and not necessarily Facebook. And I think my reason is pretty good. So I'm using something called Google Shopping.

And basically if you want to sell something you need to step into your customer's shoes and see the state of mind they're in when they're in front of their computer or on their phone. So here's the thing. When you go on Facebook you're not looking for something. You're not typing something like I want to buy some shoes. Right.

You're just browsing videos and you're talking to your friends and you're reading articles and stuff like this. It's like when you have nothing to do you will go on Facebook and just lose a bunch of hours there. But your main purpose is not to go and buy anything.

So ads are actually more an interruption than anything. So a lot of people don't like the ads they read. They will report them and stuff. So you're not here for that. All right. So the only reason why you will go and buy something if you if you see something like an impulsive buy you know you see something you love it so much. And then you'll buy it. I bet you will buy it if it's not super expensive.

It needs to be a low ticket item. Something less than 20 bucks or whatever. People will be prepared to buy if it's an impulsive buy like that.

Google or Facebook? That is the question.

So why don't you use Google shopping and the Google network? The reason why I'm using this network is that I am not interrupting people. OK.  So very often you type something you find it and then you go away. You don't spend three hours in front of your Google.com page like you will on Facebook. OK.

So the people who are on Google. They're there with a purpose. All right. They are looking for whatever they felt basically when people type I want the TV. It's like where can I buy a TV? This is where the ads are going to appear. OK. It's very easy to understand the difference in mind-set from someone who was just browsing and talking to Bob and someone who was actually looking for a TV and who actually typed “I want a television”. Right.

This is what the AdWords and the Google network would do. OK. So you're not talking to people who you need to convince to buy whatever you want to sell them. You're not trying to convince them. They are already convinced. They typed “I want to buy X Y Z” whatever that X Y Z is right. And this is the big difference for me because the conversion rates and like the bounce rates are like miles away from Facebook.

And you know this is something I want you guys to understand is don't only think about what you want to sell. Think about the mind-set and what your target customer is doing at that moment.

So if you've ever wondered what the difference was between those networks and more importantly you know why you should use one over the other. Or you can use them at the same time, then that's it. And what you can do as well is that Google is a network for retargeting.

For example you can start with Facebook to follow these people and then when you find what they like, you can retarget them on Google. So it's not one or the other, you can use both at the same time. But I just really want you guys to understand the difference between these networks, so you make an educated decision when it comes to figuring out where you're going to advertise these products and how it can best work for you.
