In this podcast you will find all the support and answers you need to start, grow and scale a business that gives you the freedom you deserve.
I have compressed years of trials and errors, into easy to consume episodes, to take you from where you are now, to where you want to be.
So today is the opening day of the huge sales in France. So basically it's a sales period like Christmas where everything's like minus 50 percent and all that kind of stuff.
So this is when you make the bulk of your sales. You can increase your revenue considerably during that period. So during that period, you know, people are stressed. You know, you prepare for that to make sure that all the segments and everything is ready. So when the floodgates are open, which was today at 8am in France, then you want everything to go smoothly.
OK, so what happened is that last minute for I don't know, for some reason we realized that we made some imports. So moving files around and there was a problem. One of the servers where I mean, normally you have you know, the server is supposed to only have unique email addresses. So you can't have the same email address twice. And we'll just update an email first. And for some reason, there were duplicates all over the place.
And this is when people started panicking. So I see a ticket that contacts our I.T. guy saying, oh, there is a big problem. We need to fix it ASAP because we have these campaigns leaving. We need to stop everything.
OK, you know, you need to consider your options. You need to consider the timing and how much leeway you have. OK, and one thing that you shouldn't do is panic, OK?
Because here in this case, decisions were taken based on panic and there was no constructive thought process behind that. OK, I know it's hard to stay calm when, you know, when shit hits the fan, but that's the best thing you can actually do.
So for today, instead of panicking and stuff, we just sent emails normally and then we have time to think this through and understand what the issue was.
OK, and because I've seen cases where people start like frantically panicking and run around like headless chickens when there are actually options and workarounds.
OK, so here in this case. So let me let me tell you what the workaround could have been. OK, so just for you to understand how the thing works.
So we have in the in the database, we have two fields. One is email and another column where we put the number of the segment like segment one, for example. OK, so we imported the data at once and then for whatever reason, I don't know, we just reimported the data and we were supposed to update the existing data, so basically people were appearing twice.
So instead of involving the tech guy and having him reinstall all the freaking servers, what can we do?
So we realized that because these two lines had the same email and the same segment number, it created two entries. OK, so what do you do? Well, you just don't target that segment.
So that initial segment that I wanted to use, well, I'm not going to use it. I'm just going to delete it or whatever, and I just use the new one. Right.
So there is no need to go into, you know the developer, the blah, blah, blah, etc..
How to be successful even in times of crisis
OK, this is it is going to be crucial, right, for anything you are going to do online, because trust me, talk to anybody who's been doing that for, you know, for quite some time, even people who just get started. You know, there is always something that will happen. Like nothing goes as planned.
And this is the reason why I don't panic when there is something. I always look at the option. I try to find a root cause. I try to find a workaround.
In this case, the workaround was super simple, you know, and these are things that have become kind of like second nature, I will say. And with experience, you too will be able to fix and find workarounds when it happens to you.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do successful people respond differently during a crisis?
Successful people separate the events of a crisis from their identity. They focus on what they can control inside the next 24 hours instead of catastrophizing the next 12 months. They also keep one revenue activity moving daily, which prevents the income pipeline from collapsing while emotions settle.
What should I do first when a crisis hits my business?
Cut every non-essential expense within 48 hours, list every paying customer, and contact each one personally. Most crises destroy businesses not because demand vanishes but because owners freeze. Trimming 30 percent of overhead and reactivating dormant accounts buys 60 to 90 days of runway to rebuild.
How do I stay productive when the news is full of bad headlines?
Set a hard cap on news consumption at 15 minutes per day, scheduled once after lunch. Doomscrolling steals deep work time and replaces it with anxiety. The information you actually need to act on rarely changes hourly. A daily summary keeps you informed without breaking your focus seven times a day.
Can a small business actually grow during an economic crisis?
Yes, and history backs it up. Microsoft, FedEx, Airbnb, and Uber all launched or scaled during recessions. Crisis creates pricing dislocation, talent availability, and weakened competitors. Small businesses with low overhead and fast decision making often gain market share while bigger players are still cutting and reorganizing.

A Crisis Does Not Break Businesses, It Reveals The Ones Already Fragile
Every time the world wobbles, I watch two kinds of businesses. One panics and freezes, the other quietly gets stronger. The difference is never luck. A crisis does not create the weakness, it just exposes the fragility that was already there, hidden by good times. When I built my business to survive without me, on multiple income streams, a downturn stopped being a threat and became a chance to grow while others hid.
So build for the storm before it arrives. Diversify how you make money, keep your costs light, and automate so the business runs even when you cannot. Then a crisis is not the end, it is your opening. I share how I recession proofed my own income on the Freedom by Choice podcast and in my own story. For the evidence, McKinsey has studied which companies outperform through downturns, and Harvard Business Review has covered how resilient businesses prepare in advance.
