The conference was actually pretty interesting and I got to liaise with a lot of smart people.
They're really smart guys. And, you know, we're going in the same direction, but we're taking very different roads. And one thing that I realized was, you know, as much as a lot of them were successful and stuff. I still like what I'm doing a hundred times better.
They're making all this money and stuff. But every time I was like, oh, Neil, what are you doing tomorrow morning? You want to do something? He replied, I have to call a client. I have to send that back to a client and stuff like that, you know, and before you meet them, you have no idea what they're doing.
A lot of them saw me in Bali, but they weren't at my presentation. So they had no idea what I was doing. So when they came to my presentation and they realized that I have zero commitments. Zero phone calls with clients, zero appointments with clients. I have zero meetings, zero nothing.
I was able to create a business where all these commitments that you have, Mr. Client wants to call you back. It's normal. You know, Mr. Client wants to talk to you. You have to talk to Mr. Client. Right. And they're going to call you for anything and nothing. They want a meeting at 8:00 a.m. and stuff like that.
These are things that I didn't want in my life anymore. And I managed to get rid of them. And a lot of them were like really impressed because that's one of the things that happened to me in the beginning. You start your career and you are doing something and then it evolves over time.
And the evolution for me was in the beginning, I was focused on how do I get some income so that I can leave my job? But very quickly, it moved to how do I actually get time in my life?
I'm not talking to any clients or stuff, I just shape my business in a certain way that I don't have to do these kinds of things. And a lot of them were like, do you know what? I need you to come and talk to me and explain how.
And I realized that all of them will trade some the money that they have for more time. I was kind of like the attraction of the whole show, like, a lot of people were pushing me, oh, man, I need to talk to you. How do you do this? How do you do that?
Because when they build their business, you know, you start with a reason why, which is, I want to work less. But what happens is that you get caught up in a spiral where you're actually working way more than when you were in corporate and you don't know how to get out of it.
So these people are making money, but they have to work. They have to listen to the clients. And that’s not for me. You may be financially free and stuff, but I want to be absolutely free from the tyranny of Mr. Client. And this is the reason why I set up my business this way.
My biggest take-away from the freedom summit
So I'm very, very happy about, you know, the course that I took. I was very happy about it anyway, even before that. But now, after spending so much time with some people who are experts, you know, they made it and stuff, I realized that, yes, I have something that's a lot more precious than them, which is that I have my time and I have my freedom and I have my life.
