The Internet and all the examples that we have are based on people who have massive, massive audiences. OK, so in the last couple of years, you've seen the rise of influencers and what are they just worried about? The number of followers.

So they have three million followers on Instagram and have so many likes and stuff, you know, and then basically slowly but surely, people just started integrating the notion that, oh, you need so many people who follow you and all that kind of stuff, otherwise your business is not successful.

So let me tell you something. A lot of these people that you see on Instagram have a lot of followers and are broke as hell. They're broke. I see some here. They're broke. I had a lot of accounts on Instagram. At some point, I had over 100000 followers, like hundred twenty thousand or something.

Do you think I was making millions with this? No, I wasn't. Honestly, I wasn't. So the followers, it's not something that you bring to the bank and they will give you money, right? It doesn't mean anything. So please understand this. It doesn't mean anything.

I see people who are wasting their valuable time running after followers. What does it matter? Well, it doesn't matter. What is it like? It's nothing. Unless people go and they put up the credit card and they pay you for something, then it doesn't mean anything.

It’s just some vanity for your ego, you know, that's pretty much what it is. OK, so this is exactly what I want to talk about today.

I want to talk about the fact that because you have this in your mind as a prerequisite for having, you know, something that's meaningful, something that's fulfilling and stuff, then what happens when you have a small audience?

People are afraid to start because they're like, oh, yeah, but Cindy oh, she has so many followers and I have zero and how can I compete with her and blah blah blah, blah, blah. And some people make excuses. They never start.

What should you do when NOBODY is listening?

OK, now let me tell you something. You will start somewhere at some point. So when you start, there is a point when you will have zero followers, zero readers, zero listeners, zero nothing. OK, everybody starts there, OK.

And the problem is that with this bad example in your mind, you basically think that it's pointless. If you don't have the million then it's pointless, you don't matter or anything.

Let's say, for example, you spend so much time, you spend, I don't know, three or four days writing an article, recording this video, editing and stuff for like weeks.

And then you put it out and then it seems like nobody's listening. It is hard for everybody. It is hard for you. It is hard for me. It is hard for anybody who produces content and who pours their heart and soul into it. And they realize that nobody seems to be listening.

OK, right. So it was hard before, but now it's even harder because of that fantasy of followers and likes and stuff, you know, like, oh, have you seen this article? He got so many likes on it. And I'm like, well, so what? Maybe you've never met some of these influencers and stuff. I've met a lot of them. I mean a lot of them and most of them are broke as hell, OK?

So anyway, that's not my point. The point is this. Let's say, for example, you work for like a week on an article. You did the research, you had the proof read, found all the images and stuff, corrected it, rewrote it and all that kind of stuff.

You put it on your blog, on your site or somewhere, or you organise a presentation and only 5 people show up. Then nobody seems to care and it hurts, OK, and what do you end up doing? You will be depressed.  You'll be mad the whole thing and you actually cut it short because you're like, yeah, this is pointless and I'm going to do that for five people.

What if instead of focusing on the people who didn't show up, why don't you focus on the people who showed up? Because there are five people there. And why are you mad at those people? You know, why are you mad at them? They showed up, you know what I mean?

It sucks that you wanted to have a thousand people and stuff and you only have five. But these five people are the people that showed up for you.

So instead of moaning that you have five people you’re like, you know what? For one of these people, they're going to have their life changed. And then you're going to give it your best, you're going to give your all.  And this is where it all starts.
