The bot is not a writer in the open sense, it is a stand-in for the producer I would have hired if I had wanted to spend the money. It hangs on three moves: pick the single most opinion-worthy moment in the video, write the question and options in the viewer’s voice, and time the post so the viewers who clicked through are the ones who vote. Done right, it gives back the 10 minutes per poll AND the 18 to 30 percent engagement lift you would never have written by hand.
Anchor the poll to a real opinion-worthy beat in the transcript
The bot starts by reading the transcript and asking one question: where in this video would a viewer naturally say “I disagree” or “mine is X”? That is the opinion-beat. Every paragraph in the transcript gets a score on three things: how opinionated the language is, how relatable the moment is, and how short it is. The highest-scoring beat becomes the anchor for the poll. That single move stops the poll from being generic and starts it being something a viewer already has an answer to before they tap.

How to build the YouTube poll bot, step by step
Wire the YouTube upload trigger that fires on every new video
The trigger is the source of truth for the whole bot. Point a small workflow (n8n, Make, or Zapier all work) at your YouTube channel through the Data API or through a webhook from your video host. Every time a new video appears on the channel, the workflow fires once. Filter the trigger so it only fires on public uploads, not on drafts or unlisted clips. The trigger does not write anything yet, it only carries the new video ID forward to the rest of the bot. This single piece is what makes the whole poll loop event-driven instead of scheduled.
Pull the transcript and run a sentiment + opinion scan across every paragraph
When the trigger fires, the bot pulls the transcript through the YouTube Data API and runs a pass across every paragraph that scores three things: how opinionated the language is (definite statements, contrarian framing, judgments), how relatable the moment is (a situation the viewer has lived through), and how short it is (the beat must fit a poll question under 80 characters). The pass returns a ranked list of candidate beats. Without this scan the bot is guessing what the video is about, which is how generic polls happen.

The scheduler holds the poll for the cadence window from prompt 3 (roughly 24 to 48 hours after the video went public). When the window opens, the bot sends a single HTTPS request to the YouTube API endpoint for community-tab posts with the poll JSON, the channel’s OAuth token, and the chosen live-window (default seven days). YouTube confirms the post with a fresh community-post ID. No log in. No Studio tab. The poll is live on the community tab while you were doing something else.
Log the results and write the follow-up that pulls voters to the next video
The last step closes the loop. When the seven-day window ends, the bot reads the final vote distribution through the YouTube API, writes a row to a small Airtable base (video ID, poll question, winning option, vote split, engagement-rate delta versus the channel’s last ten videos), then runs the prompt-4 writer to produce three short pieces: a pinned-comment follow-up on the original video, a single-line winner caption on the community tab, and a sentence appended to the next video’s pinned comment.
