FBC – 97 – A kid taught me a valuable lesson

A kid taught me a valuable lesson.

Today I am going to start by venting and ranting. Then I am going to tell you about one of the most surprising kids I have ever seen.

So today I went to play ball. I was shooting by myself and stuff you know doing my drills. And there was this dude with his kid. Right. So when I got there the Dude and the kid were already there you know.

And the dad he left at some point. He went to buy a drink or whatever and he went to the bar or whatever. And the kid was there for like half an hour. And this kid, I mean I’m impressed! Some people impress me. I'm so impressed with this kid. This kid was awesome. I actually went to see his dad afterwards you know.

So the kid decided to do some like drills and stuff. He put some cones like 10 of them and he was practicing his dribbles you know for like half an hour, just doing repetitions. And nobody asked him to do it. And you know it's a drag for most people. Most people would have done it for two minutes or whatever and then stopped.

This kid was doing it for like half an hour. Nobody asked him to do this. You know it was just self-discipline. The kid was 8. All right. When Dad came back, I want to see the dad. I was like “Dude your kid's going to go super far in life”.

I am really impressed with this kid. It's the first time I ever see a kid that goes out and starts doing those drills of those really unsexy tasks like trivial tasks that people don't want to do but they’re important because they build the foundation of what you want to do.

And this kid is just doing it by himself. These are things that are really hard to find in adults. You know the self-discipline and an objective. Already he's looking at the bigger picture. And as adults in this kind of business and anything in life, we need to follow his example and try to look at the bigger picture.

And the dad said “Thank you for acknowledging it because I really think that my kid does have this grit and self-discipline” and he's very happy about it. And he was very happy that I noticed. I was like Man whatever this kid does in life he is going to get super far. I don't care what he what he does. These attributes that he has will take him super far in life.

So yeah it was a pretty good day. So for I mean I guess for today I wanted to talk about something else but I mean for today was the first time I witnessed something like this. A kid that age you know having the self-discipline to go and do whatever is necessary right. I don't even I do that. I go in and do my shooting drills.

I'm very disciplined in that but it's something that I acquired right. I think I started doing this when I was like 26 or something. This kid has it in his eye. and he's still so young. It's not something you see very often, but it's definitely the mark of a champion!

So yeah this is something this is a characteristic that takes you really far in life and I don't care what the discipline is or whatever. He has something so precious, and if you can adopt that approach in whatever you’re doing, then you will do well.
