This is super fresh news, something that happened to me today that it is an example of what people should do. I'm just going to tell you a story about what happened to me today, you'll see these are the sort of things that people will ignore. But this will actually take you a long, long way.
OK, so here's the story. Now during the lockdown, I have a pool. And I have decided that, well, you know what? I'm going to use the pool because the thing when you have a pool, it is the case for me. When you donโt have a pool, you wish you had one. And then when you have a pool, then it's not like you ever actually use it.
So I said, look, I need to swim. What I do is I will swim in my swimming pool with a tube and a mask. The tube is so that I don't get tired, I don't have to control my breathing and all that kind of stuff and I can get more exercise done so I can basically swim for like half an hour because normally I can swim for like five seconds. And, you know, what I want to be able to do is swim for 45 minutes.
Well, the problem is that the straps on my mask broke. Yeah, so it sucks. I cannot use the mask. So today I was looking for a dive shop where I could buy the straps. So I asked a few people who do like diving and stuff. They told me, I don't know if you can buy the straps. And then eventually I said, look, on Google, I found this place that's not too far from where I live.
And I found a WhatsApp number. I contact this this dive shop, you know, send them like a photo. And I said, look, I have this mask. The straps broke. Do you actually sell just the straps? I don't need the whole mask. Do you sell that?
So few hours pass and I you know, I don't get an answer. And then someone answers. So very respectfully the person starts by saying, look, I'm very sorry for the slow response time. Sorry, you know, because of the circumstances, you know, the coronavirus and stuff were closed.

And so I have to say, well, my main question is, to your knowledge, can I just buy the straps? And so this person on the other side did something that I really wasn't expecting.
The person comes back to me saying, oh, you know what? Actually, here's the name of a shop where you can go and buy the straps because they do sell like generic straps and they do sell the straps of the brand of your mask. Here is their address and here is their WhatsApp number.
And in addition to this, this person looked for a third option for me and said, look, right next to that, there's another store, which is the actual reseller of the brand of your mask. And if you can't find it there, then you can contact these people here.
I was mesmerized. I was like, well, why did you go to all these lengths to help me when your store is closed? I'm not going to buy from you. You're sending me to someone else. Why did you do this?
That person had no obligation and no actual reason to go and send me to a competitor.
So for me, it was the best demonstration of professionalism and customer care because again, this person didn't have to do it, OK, but they did all the research and everything for me and I was able to get in touch with the store who said, yep, we do have this.
So I started chatting with this person on the other side and said, look, you know what? This is the best customer service I have gotten in a long time. My customer experience was really awesome. You now have a customer for life.
So I don't care if they may be a little bit more expensive than anywhere else. But if I need something in the future, anything related to diving or whatever, I will go there. And if anyone asks me, oh, do you know any diving stores, I will send them there. Right.
I will go and I will leave a review on google because this is excellent, excellent customer service. Yeah.
These are the small little things that, when you go the extra mile for your clients, you will generate big waves afterwards. Itโs a marketing strategy that I strongly recommend to everyone in business.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most powerful marketing strategy?
Word of mouth, the genuine recommendation that spreads when people share something they value. Martin calls it the ultimate strategy because it brings raving fans without paid ads. The best part is that it costs nothing and requires no prior training, so any business owner can start generating it almost immediately.
Why is word of mouth so effective?
People trust a recommendation from someone they know far more than any advertisement. That trust turns into loyal customers and raving fans who promote you for free. Martin illustrates with a simple everyday story how this kind of organic sharing quietly does more for a business than expensive campaigns ever could.
Do you need training to use this marketing strategy?
No. Martin stresses that the most powerful marketing is accessible to everyone without any prior training. You do not need a budget or technical skills. By delivering something genuinely good and worth talking about, you naturally trigger the recommendations that grow a business. The barrier is remarkable work, not learning clever tactics.
How can a small business start generating word of mouth?
Focus relentlessly on giving people an experience worth sharing, then make it easy for them to talk about you. Martin story shows that small, authentic moments often spark the most powerful recommendations. Consistently delivering value, and being memorable while doing it, is what turns ordinary customers into enthusiastic promoters of your business.
