Maybe if you're an employee, you are under the impression and everybody in the company is under the impression that the boss only cares about money and that the only motivation for your boss is money. And a lot of people think that the only motivation for entrepreneurs, even if you have like a big company with hundreds of employees.
They think that your only motivation is money. All right. And this couldn't be farther from the truth, right.
So it can start off with I want more money. Okay. But again, we've seen that money is just a means to an end. All right. But very often you're your first motivation is, dude, I want more money because with more money than I'll be able to do something, right. So your first couple of objectives you have are about your money.
But really, this money will allow them to have a lifestyle. Okay. Because this is what they're actually after. So this depends on the people, obviously, but it can change very quickly. You know, people can realize that, you know what, my time is more important than my money.
Okay. Me, for example. I'll tell you something. It doesn't only apply to employees and stuff. So there is a correlation between the amount of hours you work and your salary. Okay. So in in French it was called the like the usefulness and the uselessness of work. OK. If that makes any sense.

So here's the thing. Here is how that works. So when you are working for a company for example and you want more money you do usefulness. Don't know if that's actually the word. So the downside is that you'll have to work more. What happens is that once you reach a certain level, and then you're not interested in working more to get more money.
You already have enough money and what you want is more time. So this is something I really want you guys to understand, because I think it's very sad and it gives the wrong image of entrepreneurs. You were only about the money and stuff.
So theyโre trying to figure out which way they want to go. So they have different routes, and you need to figure out which one is the best. And my question was this. What is your priority? Okay.
So this is important, right? That will not define you or what you are going to do with your company, with your business, with your practice or whatever. I already told you, you have to remember your Why? That's very important. So let's say in this case, they had like three different options. And I asked them. What's the primary objective for you?
Is the primary objective growing your revenue and your profit, or for you to get out of the business and have it run without you so that you can have a better life? Okay. Because these are two very different objectives.
So, you know, that's why I asked them, because I told them this is what drives all my business decisions. Everything I do is driven by this rule. Me, I want to have a great life. I won't charge time. I want to have a choice. I don't want to do anything. I don't want. I don't like. And if it means that I'll make less money, I'll make less money.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the first step to creating a dream business?
The first step is defining your personal “why” before choosing a business model. Clarify whether your priority is maximizing revenue or building a lifestyle business that runs without you. Research shows that entrepreneurs who define their core motivation before launching are 2.5 times more likely to sustain their business long-term.
Should entrepreneurs prioritize revenue or lifestyle when starting a business?
It depends on your personal goals, but you must choose one as your primary driver. Revenue-focused businesses require more hours and aggressive scaling. Lifestyle-focused businesses optimize for time freedom and automation. Both paths are valid, but trying to chase both simultaneously often leads to burnout and indecision.
Why do most new businesses fail in the first year?
Most new businesses fail because founders skip the foundational step of defining clear objectives. Without knowing whether you want revenue growth or lifestyle freedom, every business decision becomes a coin flip. Approximately 20% of small businesses fail in their first year, often because the founder lacked a clear guiding vision from day one.
How do you find your “why” as an entrepreneur?
Ask yourself what you would do if money were no longer a concern. Your answer reveals your true motivation. Many entrepreneurs start chasing money but eventually realize they actually want time freedom and choice. Writing down your ideal daily lifestyle helps clarify which business model will actually deliver what you want.
