If you are feeling unhappy and stressed as an entrepreneur, there is a good chance the problem is not your workload. It is who you are working with. In this episode, I break down how to create client personas (for the people you want AND the people you do not want) so you can protect your energy and build a business that actually feels good.

So today I wanted to touch base on something that I think is making a lot of people miserable. And a lot of people depressed as well.
There are two schools on this. Focus on one thing and be great at that. Yes, I do understand that. But we have a natural curiosity and personality, right. So if you are curious and you like to explore different things, then you should. It just depends on who you are.
This is where I tried to explain how I see things. You need to create a persona. You need to do one of those for different people in your business.
You need to find the persona for the people you absolutely want and then you need a persona for the people who don't. This is the hardest thing to do for people. You need the persona of people you don't want. The loss outweighs the gains by far.
You don't see all the ramifications and everything that goes afterwards, because when you sell stuff, then you have this relationship where the client is entitled to contact you. And everything that comes with that money, all the strings are attached to that money.

ToggleChoosing the Right Clients for Your Business
You have some people who respect all the work that you put into that training, whatever you did and all the value of the intellectual property that is behind it. They understand how much time and effort and money you spent into gathering all that knowledge. And they will respect that.
But also there are different groups of people. You also have people that will buy a training and they will be like, oh man, there was one thing I didn't like in there. Give me my money back. And they want to keep your training. They want their money back and they will whine about everything.
And there are other people who buy your training and the only thing they look for is that one piece of information that helps them move forward. And then they are happy about it. These people will find that gold nugget and for them, it is a success. They understand the value of what you are bringing.
Protecting Your Business from the Wrong People
Let us say, for example, you are like a pet lover. You build a business around animal protection. Do you really want people who support animal cruelty as a client just because they have money? You want to reserve your product, your training, whatever you are selling, to people who have the same values.
I really encourage you to look into this. If you are thinking about starting a business, the best way to start it is from the get go. Do not get these people inside your tribe. Make sure that your message is explicit enough. Inviting enough for the people you want, and discouraging enough for the people you don't want.
Choosing the right clients is not about excluding people. It is about protecting the energy and quality of your business so you can serve the right people at your highest level.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my clients are causing my stress?
Look at your energy levels after client interactions. If you consistently feel drained, frustrated, or resentful after dealing with certain clients, your client selection process needs work. The clients you accept directly impact your daily happiness.
What is a client persona and why do I need one?
A client persona is a detailed profile of your ideal client, including their values, behavior, and expectations. You need two personas: one for clients you want and one for clients you want to avoid. This helps you craft messaging that attracts the right people and repels the wrong ones.
How do I turn away clients who do not align with my values?
Make your messaging clear about who your product or service is for. Be explicit about your values and the type of person who benefits most. When your brand message naturally filters out the wrong clients, you do not have to reject them personally.
Can being selective about clients actually increase revenue?
Yes. Toxic clients drain time, energy, and resources far beyond what they pay. They demand refunds, leave negative reviews, and consume your support bandwidth. Focusing on aligned clients reduces churn, increases referrals, and protects your mental health.
