What Should You Do When You Hit The “Holy Macaroni” Wall?

Today, we are going to discuss how you can handle situations where you feel overwhelmed and don't know how to climb the wall. Very often, we are confronted with tasks that seem unattainable and the safest course of action is, more often than not, to give up. It doesn't have to be this way.

We are going to explore a very useful option.

I'm trying to acquire a new skill. And I'm looking into Pinterest at the moment because I didn't know anything about Pinterest. Nothing. Right. So I know about Facebook and Instagram and stuff, even though I'm not like a heavy user of Facebook anyway.

I used to go on Facebook quite often before, but now I don't go to Facebook anymore. I realize I use Instagram way more and I use Facebook and it's not like I'm a hard-core Instagram user anyway. I'm looking into Pinterest. And it's fascinating. I've realized the difference.

I realize how little I knew about this network and how powerful it actually is. And the good thing is that people are looking at Instagram and Facebook and like Twitter and Snapchat and stuff.

But not too many people are looking into Pinterest. But Pinterest is the social network where people spend the most money. So I think it's like 50 percent of users on Pinterest earn more than 50k a year. Then you have a percentage that who earn up to one hundred and twenty five thousand.

It's mostly women above 40 who have kids and who have money to spend. They do want to spend money. What's interesting is that the current amount of users that Pinterest has, it generates more sales than Facebook. And why is that?

Well, it is because, you know, if you know something about Pinterest, you realize that Pinterest is actually a search engine. Once you realize this, you see the potential of Pinterest and you may be wondering, dude, why am I not on Pinterest?

And it's absolutely fascinating how that works.

So for that, what am I doing? I am following someone else's course. You want to find people who are having a lot of success on Pinterest or whatever you're trying to study. And then you tried to figure out, you know, how they did it. You know, they will show you this. So that's pretty cool.

What Should You Do When You Hit The “Holy Macaroni” Wall?

It's like having a mentor, you know. So I'm following this course and stuff and I think we're getting there now. When you start a course, there are different phases. You're pumped up and stuff like, oh, man, I need that course. And so motivated, I'm going to crush it and stuff. All right. So you go you buy the course and you start it. Of course you do. You're motivated and everything.

And then at some point you're like, dude. I mean, there is a lot of work here because basically the person is showing you their methodology thatโ€™s been there for years and years. OK. So obviously they're showing you what they learned over the years, which is what you were looking for, actually. Right. But it's actually a double edged sword. If you're not careful, if you're not mentally prepared for it you're going to hit a wall.

I'll never get to that point. You know, like, well, it's easy for you. I'll never get there. You know, you have like two hundred thousand followers and I have like five hundred. And that's when you start getting discouraged and all that stuff. And this is when a lot of people actually give up even before starting anything, even though they were super motivated in the in the beginning.

So before I was buying a training, I was going through the whole training and stuff, you know, taking notes and blah, blah, blah. I was telling myself, OK, once I finished the training, I have the whole perspective. I'm going to go back and implement it. Right?

No, wrong! You must implement it straight away. OK. Because otherwise it's not going to happen. You don't see the progress. OK.ย  When you make progress, then you keep your motivation intact. Because if you wait until the end to start, it will look like a daunting task, and you won't do it. All right.

So I think the best way to avoid hitting this wall is to implement it as they're explaining it in course, so that you always make progress. All right. Because. Yeah. Again, if you don't do that, then trust me, it's not going to work for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Holy Macaroni wall and why does everyone hit it?

The Holy Macaroni wall is the moment a project suddenly looks too big to finish. Every founder hits it because every meaningful project crosses the boundary between exciting concept and unglamorous execution. Hitting the wall is not a sign you picked the wrong project. It is a stage of every right one.

Why do most people give up when a task feels unattainable?

Most people give up at the wall because they confuse I do not know how with this cannot be done. The first is a research problem. The second is a fact. Research problems are solved by spending one focused hour finding someone who has already done the thing.

What is the first step to climb a wall that feels too tall?

The first step at the wall is to write the wall down in a single sentence and then list the three smallest possible moves that would chip at it. Movement, even small, kills paralysis. Most walls collapse not from a heroic effort but from twenty small consistent attacks.

How do you break a giant overwhelming goal into climbable steps?

Take the goal, ask what version of it could be done in one week, then ask what version of that could be done today. Repeat until the next move fits in the next 60 minutes. Most overwhelm is not a goal problem, it is a granularity problem solved by sharper cuts.
